3 חרוזי זכוכית צבעוניים מחוברים בחוט. שימש כסגולה לשילוח והרחקת. מרעין בישין. החרוז הצהוב מסמן את האור ואת השפע החומרי. החום את היציבות והכחול את השמים בהם אין למרעין בישין אפשרות לשלוט.

Three colored glass beads on a cord. Used as a talisman to avert the evil eye and prevent calamities. The yellow bead symbolizes light and the abundance of nature, the brown stability, and the blue the heavens where the forces of evil cannot rule.

Blue glass bead strung on a copper chain. Blue is used against the evil eye because the color blue is reminiscent of the sky, where the forces of evil cannot rule. Blue is the color of the sea, and. there is no blessing other than in what is hidden from sight.

דפוס לעווי ירושלים, ראשית המאה ה־20' מזמור קכ"א בתהילים היה נפוץ בקהילות שונות כסגולה להגנה על היולדת והרך הנולד. המזמור משובץ לצד לחש לעין הרע שכתב החיד"א, חמסה, שמות האבות והאמהות, והמקומות הקדושים. במרכז מופיעה ציפור גדולה הפורשת כנפיה. קמעות עם ציורי ציפורים נחשבו לאמצעי רב עוצמה כנגד עין הרע, ככתוב: "כציפורים עפות כן יגן ה' צבאות על ירושלים"...

Shir Hama’alot, Levi Printers, early 20th century Psalm 121 was commonly used among the various communities as a talisman to protect mothers and their newborn infants. The hymn was used in an amulet together with an incantation to keep the evil eye at bay written by Rabbi Haim David Azulai (the Hida), a five-fingered charm (hamsa), the names of the patriarchs and matriarchs, and the holy sites. In the center is a large bird spreading its wings. Amulets with drawings of birds were considered powerful protection against the evil eye, as in the biblical quotation, “As birds hovering, so will the Lord of hosts protect Jerusalem. ”

In the center of the amulet, protection against Lilith, the enemy of babies. Tradition had it that Elijah encountered Lilith on her way to a new mother’s house to harm the infant. Elijah forbade her to harm the mother and her baby. She agreed on condition that the names of the three angels: Senoy, Sansenoy and Samangelof, appeared in the mother’s room. “And everyone who knows my names, I shall immediately flee from the baby.” And the amulet was hung up and neither the child nor the mother shall ever be harmed by me.” With thanks to the Kluger family.

בלי עין הרע

קמעות לשמירה על היולדת והתינוק

אחוזי התמותה הגבוהים של התינוקות והיולדות גרמו לשימוש באמונות עממיות, דוגמת שימוש בקמעות, "עין הרע", חמסות ועוד.
השימוש התכוף בהם היה בחינת "לא יועיל לא יזיק".
השימוש רווח בעדות השונות ובדתות השונות בעיר העתיקה בירושלים.
